Complaint

My son is at Dade Juvenile Residential Facility, he went there Dec. 27,2007. This is supposed to be a 6 - 9 month program, we were told from the fist day, he will not get out before the 9th month (no one does). Why bother calling it a 6 - 9 month program then. I received a call yesterday from the nurse, who after 5 months decided to call and ask if my son was allergic to anything. She stated this should have been done on the first day. Thank God he is not allergic to anything. Since being there he has been over medicated to the point he could not stand up, which was reported to me by his therapist. His therpist voiced a concern about him being on way to much medication. I had to call the Dr. myself and request the medicaltions be lowered, because no one there was going to speak up. It is my understanding that moderate risk programs were not supossed to have razor wire fenses, well Dade and Collier Academy both have razor wire. My son has been in a program for 9 months now, as he was transferred to Dade from Collier Academy after CA was found in neglect by the IG office when they allowed by son who was on suicide precautions (constant supervision) to obtain a can lid and cut himself again, as well as falsifing precatuionary observation logs sheets, and having my son in zip tie cuffs with no log of contacting the director. Oh the list goes on and on. There ws no disicpilairy actions taken against CA except for them to conduct more training to their staff. What a joke. I just want my son home and safe. Any comments or advice in this matter would be appriciated. [Click here to read original message]

Elisa,

Please provide the CCC/IG# for Collier Academy, Autumn 2007 neglect/falsification: - allowed boy who was on suicide precautions (constant supervision) to obtain a can lid and cut himself, as well as falsifying precautionary observation logs sheets, and having boy in zip tie cuffs with no log of contacting the director.
