Subject: [Juvenile Justice Florida Style!] New comment on Juvenile Detention -
DECEMBER 08.
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Juvenile Detention - DECEMBER 08":
To parents of children in detention: Our experience with Brevard County detention was the same when our family member was secured there. There was medication not given after a prescription was brought to the center. We did not know for five days that our family member had not received his meds. Furthermore, he had a reaction from one of the meds and the nurse thought he had a cold which caused a sore throat, but his throat was swelling from a reaction to his meds. The medical people gave him antibiotics for ten days. After the ten days, our family member went back to medical and complained his throat still hurt. She didn't believe him, and thank god, he was going to court that morning for hearing to be released. The next morning we had to take him to the ER. If half of these medical personnel in detention and in programs would just read the warning packets sent with medications, maybe they would believe, when a disabled child says his throat hurts. I actually brought this up to the judge, and the second you say anything against DJJ, she would not listen to a thing more you had to say. Furthermore, the transportation guard( from detention center), followed me out into the hall, confronting me about my family members health issues. I guess no one explained to her about the HIPAA laws about privacy of medical records. Secondly, she was a guard, not a nurse. I will continue defending the disable children held in detention and held by DJJ.
