Incidents that must be reported to the IG include:

  1. Incidents of juvenile on juvenile sexual assault;

  2. Incidents of physical attacks by juveniles on staff on DJJ/provider premises;

  3. New Capital felonies by detention status juveniles;

  4. Felony violations by DJJ/provider staff;

  5. New felony violations by detention status juveniles;

  6. Abuse allegations accepted by Abuse Registry where outside medical required; and Misdemeanor law violations by DJJ/provider staff.

At the Pinellas JDC for the last fiscal year (7/1/01-6/30/02), youth incurred 8 new felony charges for battery on staff. There are 23 other JDC's throughout Florida where these charges also occur. Hundreds of placement facilities also exist where similar charges occur.
